96-Year-Old Woman Found Dead Inside Soakaway Pit

Residents of Sarai Village in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano State were thrown into shock on Thursday after the body of a 96-year-old woman, identified as Habiba Ado, was discovered inside a soakaway pit.

Confirming the incident, the Kano State Fire Service spokesperson, Saminu Abdullahi, said the agency received a distress call from a resident, Usman Adamu, around 9:27 a.m. on Thursday, reporting that an elderly woman had fallen into a toilet pit.

According to Abdullahi, the rescue team recovered the body, but she was confirmed dead at the scene. Relatives told officials that the deceased had been missing for four days and had reportedly been suffering from mental illness.

Her remains have been handed over to the Ward Head, Alhaji Musa Muhammad, for burial in line with Islamic rites.

Authorities have since advised residents to seal open pits and soakaways to prevent similar tragedies.
