5 THINGS YOU SHOULD HAVE BEFORE STARTING A PRIVATE SCHOOL.
5 THINGS YOU SHOULD HAVE BEFORE STARTING A PRIVATE SCHOOL.
.
Starting a private school is a dream many people have and it is a good dream to pursue.

.
You want to educate children. You want to make a difference in
.
society and you want to build a business that makes you money.
.
But having money to rent a building or build a block of classrooms and
.
employ teachers is not enough to start a successful private school.
.
Before you open that school gate and welcome your first set of
.
students, there are 5 important things you should have.
.
✔️ (1) A Clear Plan. Don’t start a school simply because other people are making money from having a school.
.
But make sure you know the type of school you want to run,
.
the parents you want to serve, the fees you will charge,
.
and how you intend to attract parents and pupils.
.
A clear plan will help you avoid simple – simple mistakes that are costly.
.
✔️ (2) Enough Money to Start and Run the School.
.
You need money for rent, classroom furniture, teaching materials,
.
staff salaries, registration, and other expenses.
.
More importantly, have some money to run the school
.
when school fees are not coming in as expected.
.
Remember, not every parent will pay fees on time,
.
but your teachers will still expect their salaries.
.
✔️ (3) Knowledge of School Management.
.
You don’t have to be a trained teacher before you can own a private school.
.
BUT … BUT …. BUT you must understand how a school operates,
.
including staff management, teaching and learning,
.
discipline, parents’ complaints management and daily administration.
.
If you are a school owner and you don’t have experience in school management,
.
employ or work with an experienced school administrator who can guide you.
.
✔️. (4) A Good System for Managing Money.
.
Please, don’t wait until your school starts losing money before you learn how to manage school finances.
.
You need a system for recording school fees, tracking parents that are owing school fees,
.
recording expenses, and knowing whether your school is making a profit or a loss.
.
Remember: Money your school collected is not the same as the profit you school made.
.
Without proper financial records, your school may look busy and
.
successful while you are actually losing money.
.
✔️ (5) A Plan for Getting and Keeping students.
.
A beautiful school building does not automatically bring students.
.
You need to know how to reach parents, explain the value of your school, build
.
trust, and encourage satisfied parents to recommend your school to others.
.
Also, work on providing quality education and treating parents well and with respect.
.
Remember that, respect is reciprocal. If you want parents to
.
respect your authority as a school, make sure you also rest them.
.
Getting students is important, but keeping them is also very important.
.
As I am going to end this discussion, I will like to say;
.
Starting a private school is one thing ….. Building a school that attracts parents,
.
manages money properly, pays staff, and grows steadily is another thing entirely.
.
Don’t focus only on starting a school, focus on building a school that can survive and grow for many years.
.
If you are a private school owner or you are planning to start a private school,
.
which of these five things do you think is the most important?
.
Let’s discuss in the comments.
