28-Year-Old Arrested For Impersonating Top Police Officer In Recruitment Scam

The suspect was accused of impersonating the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development, DIG Frank Mba, on Facebook to promote a fake recruitment exercise.

Abuja, Nigeria- The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a 28-year-old man, Dauda Samuel, for allegedly running a fraudulent recruitment scheme by impersonating a top police officer online.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the arrest was carried out by the National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) following credible intelligence and multiple complaints from the public.

The suspect was accused of impersonating the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development, DIG Frank Mba, on Facebook to promote a fake recruitment exercise.

Using the fake identity, he reportedly defrauded unsuspecting Nigerians by collecting money under the guise of offering them employment into the Nigeria Police Force.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect created and operated fake Facebook accounts bearing the name and image of DIG Frank Mba without authorization,” the police said.
