27 Persons Killed, 42 Injured As Russian Drone Strike Triggers Warehouse Explosions In Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said more than 300 emergency personnel had been deployed to the scene, while over 370 people have been evacuated from the affected area.
At least 27 people have been killed and 42 others, including four children, injured after a Russian drone strike hit a warehouse near Kyiv, Ukraine, triggering a fire and a series of explosions.
The attack occurred in the village of Myla in the Bucha district of the Kyiv region, with search and rescue operations continuing early Saturday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said more than 300 emergency personnel had been deployed to the scene, while over 370 people have been evacuated from the affected area.
“Since last evening, efforts have been underway in the village of Myla near Kyiv to deal with the aftermath of a Russian drone strike,” Zelenskyy said on X on Saturday.
“On-site coordination centers have been set up to assist people. All necessary services are deployed.”
According to Zelenskyy, “State Emergency Service units are on the ground – with more than 300 personnel involved. A warehouse was struck, followed by a detonation.
“Unfortunately, the surrounding infrastructure has suffered significant damage – residential buildings, as well as a care home for elderly people and people with disabilities, have been damaged.
“As of now, 27 people have been reported killed. One of those killed was the head of the Dmytrivka community, Taras Didych. He was rescuing people.”
He added, “My condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims. Dozens of people have been injured.
“More than 370 people have already been evacuated, and the evacuation is ongoing. I received reports from Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi and Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Vyhivskyi.”
Regional governor Tymur Tkachenko also confirmed that 42 people, including four children, were injured in the attack.
An investigation has also been opened into whether ammunition was improperly stored at the warehouse, amid concerns that the presence of explosive materials may have contributed to the scale of the devastation.
Zelenskyy said investigators from the National Police and Security Service of Ukraine had launched a pre-trial investigation and opened criminal proceedings over alleged official negligence.
“Those who allowed this to happen must be held accountable for their decisions,” he said.
“Investigators from the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine are conducting a pre-trial investigation, and criminal proceedings have been opened on charges of official negligence.
“There are regulations in place – ammunition cannot be stored near homes or other residential areas. Appropriate conclusions will certainly be drawn.”
Russia’s Ministry of Defence, however, said its forces had deliberately targeted what it described as “an ammunition depot” in Myla.
According to the Russian ministry, the facility stored “components and launch boosters for FP-1/FP-2 long-range unmanned aerial vehicles”.
The attack was part of a wider wave of overnight strikes on Ukrainian territory.
Zelenskyy said Odesa, Dnipro, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Kherson, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Donetsk and Chernihiv regions were also targeted.
“There were also strikes on our regions overnight – the Odesa, Dnipro, Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Kherson, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Donetsk, and Chernihiv regions,” he said.
“More than 260 attack drones were involved, as well as Banderol drones. Kyiv is under virtually nonstop attack from jet-powered drones.
“Ukraine cannot be left alone in finding solutions to defend against such strikes, and I thank everyone who is helping with additional support packages and sanctions steps against Russia.”
The Ukrainian army said it shot down 233 Russian unmanned aerial vehicles overnight into Saturday.
Tkachenko also reported that a 14-year-old child was killed in a separate Russian attack in the Boryspil district.
The latest attacks come amid a major escalation in long-range drone and missile strikes between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides increasingly targeting military, energy, industrial and logistical infrastructure.
While Russia has continued to strike Ukrainian cities and infrastructure, Kyiv has intensified drone operations against Russian economic and industrial facilities that it says contribute to Moscow’s war effort.
In Russia, local officials reported that two people were killed and 21 others injured in Ukrainian strikes across the Belgorod and Rostov regions over the previous 24 hours.
Russian online retailer Ozon also said one of its logistics centres had been hit during an overnight Ukrainian drone attack.
The company said it had suspended operations at another logistics facility and evacuated workers “due to the danger in the area”.
Ozon’s facilities in Krasnodar, Dagestan, Stavropol and Adygea had also been targeted in attacks earlier in the week, with several people reportedly injured and extensive damage recorded.
Ukraine has in recent weeks targeted facilities belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer, alleging that the company supplies components to the Russian military. Moscow has denied the allegation.
