2027: “If Your Hands Are Clean, What Are You Scared Of?” —Obidient Movement Fires Back at Wike
The Lagos State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Ife Salako, has pushed back against comments by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike about the possibility of being targeted politically if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu fails to win re-election in 2027.
Speaking on News Central TV, Salako responded directly to Wike’s warning that an opposition victory could leave him vulnerable. The Obidient leader argued that public office holders with clean records should have no reason to fear a change of government.
“Public service is not permanent,” Salako said. “If you have served well and your record is clear, a transition in government should not make you apprehensive.”
Drawing on a Yoruba adage, he questioned the basis of Wike’s concern.
“I can say I’m a typical Yoruba man, and our people will say: you only start fearing something before it happens if your hands are not clean,” Salako stated.
He went further to ask what in the minister’s conduct might be fueling such anxiety.
“Seeing that he would be their target, what has he done or what is he doing in office that warrants that kind of mindset for him?” he asked.
Salako emphasized that political positions are part of a larger cycle of governance, not lifetime appointments. He pointed out that Wike himself has experienced a transition before, having served two terms as governor of Rivers State before his current appointment as FCT Minister.
