20-Year-Old Arrested For Allegedly Killing Father With Machete In Anambra
Preliminary information revealed that on the evening of Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the suspect allegedly attacked his father and fled the scene after the incident.
Police in Anambra State have arrested a 20-year-old man, identified as Pascal Ogbogu, over the alleged murder of his 56-year-old father in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, following a coordinated effort by police operatives, family members, members of the Abatete Vigilante and community members who assisted in tracking and locating him.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, disclosed the arrest while commending the community for its prompt response and cooperation with the police.
Preliminary information revealed that on the evening of Tuesday, August 25, 2026, the suspect allegedly attacked his father and fled the scene after the incident.
Following a distress report, police operatives from the Eziowelle Police Division, with the assistance of family members and members of the Abatete Vigilante, promptly mobilised to the scene.
The operatives reportedly found the lifeless body of the deceased in a pool of blood, with a deep machete wound to the throat.
The body was subsequently evacuated to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy as police commenced efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
According to the police, timely information and cooperation from community members further facilitated the suspect’s arrest.
The Commissioner of Police particularly commended the family members, community members, police operatives and Vigilante personnel for their prompt response and cooperation.
He noted that effective community participation, timely information sharing and strong partnership between the police and local communities remain important to successful policing and the protection of lives and property.
The police boss also commiserated with the family of the deceased and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and comprehensive review.
The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that all relevant facts are properly established.
The Commissioner assured the family and members of the public that the investigation would be conducted professionally, thoroughly and diligently, in accordance with the law.
He further assured that the suspect would be made to face due process upon conclusion of the investigation.
The police did not immediately disclose the motive behind the alleged attack, while the suspect is expected to assist investigators in establishing what led to the incident.
The Command urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing the importance of community cooperation in preventing and responding to criminal activities.
