WHY POLITICAL GLADIATORS MUST SEEK CAUTION IN ONDO STATE – Olasumbo Faseesin Esq
I write to inform you the need to keep the legacy of Mr. Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu Aketi, SAN intact and subsume all political interests within the period. Where possible, suspend any act that may provoke crisis in Ondo state. Just before penning my opinion, I have read conflicting reports suggesting among other things that the cabinet initiated and inaugurated by Mr. Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu Aketi,SAN might be reshuffled. In trying to make investigation and verify facts, I realised it was necessary to forward a letter to your office in this regard.
The only honour deserving of Mr. Governor at this very moment in Ondo state is not only limited to close allies who can sustain his legacy but also ensure peace, unity and stability in the state. Unfortunately, I wrote on many occasions, advising Mr. Governor to have his cabinet members more responsible in service oriented commitments. Many of my literary incursions presupposes the fact that the Governor could have mitigated the damning consequences of political violence, crises and vested interests, albeit incurable lust for power among the cabinet members jostling for the plum job. I tried on a few occasions to expose their obvious disloyalty and disregard for the incumbent in the manner they exhibited shenanigans in chase for power. But the Yoruba have the wise saying, even rooted in cosmological facts, “that a king would not ascend until the former is no more…”. Unfortunately, we do not have the monarchical practice of Law and tradition in operation. Nevertheless, it closely relates to my analogy of Mr. Governor whose appointees and cabinet members, threw caution to wind and declined having any reasonable understanding before churning reckless interests in power-politics.
Consequently, all members of the cabinet are guilty of flagrant display of nonchalance, disregard and obvious disrespect for the Governor who self appointed them to provide service and support through leadership for his vision of a new Ondo state. Most guilty are those who are silent and within the cabinet leaving power mongers to chase their interests hence distorting the imperative duties and obligations of their offices. To among other things provide quality services to the good people of Ondo state as Commissioners who were sworn by oath. This will not exclude the Deputy Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa who also had the intention to succeed his principal.
Considering the recent development, Ondo state might have suffered abuse in this regard. The good people of the sunshine state have not enjoyed sufficient benefits from the services of their cabinet members under Arakunrin’s leadership, who left their primary assignments to furrow politics. These cabinets members jostling for power left Governance to suffer setback in Ondo state and negligently avoided constitutional and statutory responsibilities INCIDENTAL to their offices.
Should one assume that the liberal Democrat, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN was perhaps taking for granted or, that they all relied on the provisions of the constitution under which they might later resign to contest ELECTIONS? The Governor was Liberal enough to indulge his cabinet members and their various political interests. Whichever method they seek to approach or, explore opportunities around the paraphernalia office would not justify their actions of disloyalty to Mr. Governor and the good people of Ondo state. That said, the current situation is likely to precipitate crisis if not tamed. While every member of the cabinet is eminently qualified to contest the office of Mr. Governor as they all appear to be desperate for succession, it is important that the public caution the Ag Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa not to overreach or, override the decision of the Governor much before he took heal.
Let all parties maintain status quo and pursue ambition with minimum requirements including decorum, good conduct and decency. Do not plunder Ondo state to crisis! You cannot claim to love the people of Ondo state and yet disregard their peaceful coexistence all in a bid to chase after power with little or, no modicum of decency. Let this serve as a warning, and by extension a clarion call to elderstatesmen and eminent stakeholders who have equal and proportional interest in the wellbeing of the state.
This message and the content therein is for emissaries of peace, home & abroad who are properly Ondo blood. We cannot afford to leave our state to violent politicians who only think power by all means. We must continually caution any excessive attempts to subject the Citizen of Ondo to needless war. There are imminent signs and insignia should we feign or, behave indifferent. Our father, Pa Fasoranti and the host of other responsible elderstatesmen like Chief Seinde Arogbofa must rise to this occasion. Our ultimate priority and interests is a peaceful Ondo state. No interests is more superior than the other in the cabinet of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN for those jostling for the top job.
