Hon. Councillor Celia Osakwe-Hibbert a current elected Councillor for Penn Ward Wolverhampton United Kingdom has praised Kelechi Iheanacho the Leicester City Football Legend for scoring the only 2 goals in yesterday’s Africa World Cup Qualifiers between Nigeria and Liberia
Hon. Celia who served as the Special Adviser on Diaspora Affairs to the Imo State Governor stated that, she is proud that “Nigeria won by 2 goals and are now one step closer to Qatar2022 World Cup but I’m even prouder that these goals were made possible due to an Imo Diasporan”. She added, “Kelechukwu is like my brother and he’s a very good friend of mine who has continued to invest in grassroots Sports in Imo. During my time as the Imo SA Diaspora we discussed several projects for upcoming Imo boys and girls”. “These aspirations for our young people are still alive and we believe are achievable with the right political will”.
Councillor Celia Osakwe-Hibbert went on to explain how Football remains the one thing that unifies Nigerians and the need for the Ministry of Sports both on States level and National level to continue to make deeper commitments and sacrifices to drive up football and obviously all other sports in the country.
In her final remarks, she stated that Nigerians should be proud of the performance yesterday, as no team is a ‘walk over’ any longer. “We pray that the Government of Nigeria will double its effort in ensuring that adequate investments are made in Nigeria’s Sports Industry; as well as financial investment, we need clear pathways underpinned by current policies and advanced strategies” Councillor Celia Osakwe-Hibbert concluded.
Hon. Chief Celia Osakwe-Hibbert thanked all the Players, especially those who flew out to Nigeria from their various Clubs in Diaspora to proudly wear our ‘Green/White/Green’ jersey irrespective of the Covid19 travel restrictions.
