The influencer had shared videos featuring the luxury vehicle, giving the impression that the car was a gift from her boyfriend. The posts generated reactions online, with many social media users discussing the expensive automobile and the alleged romantic gesture.
However, the car dealer has now come forward with a different account of what allegedly happened.
According to the dealer, Barbiie Nelly and her companions visited the dealership to inspect the Mercedes-Benz but did not purchase the vehicle as claimed by some viewers.
The dealer alleged that the visitors indicated they would return the following day to complete the purchase. However, he claimed they had already recorded several videos with the car during the inspection and later uploaded the footage to social media.
The dealer further alleged that the videos created the impression that the influencer had already acquired the vehicle, describing the situation as misleading to her followers.
In a disclaimer, the car dealer cautioned social media users against believing everything they see online, particularly when it comes to luxury displays and claims made on social media.
The dealer said, “Don’t believe everything you see on social media. Popular TikTøk influencer Barbiie Nelly, who posted videos with a Mercedes-Benz worth over ₦80 million and claimed it was a gift from her boyfriend, only came to inspect the car.”
He added that they allegedly promised to return the following day to purchase the vehicle but instead had already filmed content with the car during the inspection and subsequently shared it online.
The allegations have since stirred conversations among social media users, with some questioning the circumstances surrounding the Mercedes-Benz and others calling for clarity from the influencer.
