POS Agents, Traders Stranded As Baxi Fintech Transfer Glitch Traps Funds, Disrupts Livelihoods

The outage, which has reportedly lasted several days, has affected POS operators, small business owners, and agents who rely on the platform for daily cash flow and customer services.

Nigerian users have been thrown into frustration and financial distress following a prolonged transfer service disruption on the fintech platform Baxi, leaving thousands of agents unable to process customer transactions across the country.

The outage, which has reportedly lasted several days, has affected POS operators, small business owners, and agents who rely on the platform for daily cash flow and customer services.

In a public notice posted on Facebook, the company acknowledged the disruption and apologised for the impact on users’ businesses and livelihoods.

“We understand the frustration and pressure the ongoing Transfer disruption has caused for your businesses, daily transactions, and customer relationships. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and deeply appreciate the patience many of you have continued to show during this period,” the company wrote.

The firm, however, failed to provide a clear timeline for full restoration of services, saying it could not confirm when normal transfers would resume.

“We know many agents are asking for a clear restoration timeline, and we sincerely apologise that we are unable to confirm one just yet,” it said.

“Our teams continue to work actively with all relevant partners to fully restore and stabilise the service. Rather than share timelines that may change, we remain focused on ensuring service returns reliably and sustainably.”

The company said other services such as cash transactions, card payments, airtime and data purchases, and utility bill payments remain functional.

But for many agents, the disruption has already taken a heavy toll.

Nigerians React, Express Frustration

Angry users have taken to social media to vent their frustration, with many saying the outage has disrupted their businesses, reputations, and daily survival.

A user identified as Flourish lamented that the disruption even affected her children’s schooling.

“My children have been sent back from school because their school I can transfer. God will punish you people,” she wrote.

Another user, Toke, said she has been stranded at a police station for days due to inability to complete a transaction.

“I’m at the police station since on Wednesday because I can’t transfer a customer money from my Baxi POS… pls you people should help out,” she said.

Chimoma urged the company to resolve the issue quickly, warning of wider consequences.

“Baxi just touch your network for the sake of people who are losing their job. Please let’s do transfer and also reverse some pending transaction,” she wrote.

For Abioye, the situation has damaged trust and personal relationships.

“Baxi has turned one to a liar. Customer on my neck. I am regretting using Baxi and referring my friend to use it already. My friends are blaming me on that already,” he said.

Another user, Taiwo, accused the platform of recurring instability without warning.

“Baxi will just come up with issues without prior notice not minding the effects of their actions in customers. Upon this they wouldn’t consider compensating customers,” he wrote.

Some users expressed fear over trapped funds and uncertainty about recovery.

“So you people want us to use the POS for cash transaction so that the money will come up more so you can run away with our money ba,” Amaka alleged.

On Monday, another user, Akomolafe, summed up the mood of many agents: “Today is Monday again ooooo. Transfer is still not going.”

Similarly, Adekola questioned the logic of continuing operations under the platform’s instability.

“We are unable to transfer our money out, you are expecting us to continue putting money there,” he said.

Another user, Ber Lynn Der, demanded full restoration before further usage.

“You don’t have a time frame as to when transfer will start working and you expect us to still do transactions on the machine… kindly work on it let me transfer customers money back to them and drop your machine,” she wrote.
