Police Intercept Illegal Firearm Hidden in Bread Along Port Harcourt Road

The Rivers State Police Command has recovered a Browning pistol concealed inside a loaf of bread during a routine stop-and-search operation along Azikiwe Road near Red Cross Junction in Port Harcourt.

The Command’s spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, disclosed that the firearm was discovered after officers intercepted a vehicle and conducted a thorough search. A suspect, identified as Braya Nanas, a resident of New Road, Borikiri, was arrested in connection with the recovery.

According to the police, the Browning pistol had no visible serial number, raising concerns about its origin and intended use. During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted ownership of the weapon and told investigators that he purchased it in Okrika for N800,000.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, said the recovery underscores the evolving tactics employed by criminal elements to conceal illegal weapons from security operatives.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, packages, or activities to the nearest police station, stressing that public cooperation remains critical to effective policing.

The Commissioner also advised members of the public against accepting or transporting packages whose contents they do not know, warning that doing so could expose them to criminal liability.

The Rivers State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations and strengthening collaboration with residents to enhance security across the state.
