Oyo Abduction: “Do Not Protest, It Will Only Fuel the Terrorists’ Ego and Complicate Things” — Gov. Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has appealed to residents and concerned citizens to refrain from staging protests over the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in parts of the state, warning that such actions could inadvertently embolden the perpetrators and hinder ongoing rescue efforts.

The governor made the appeal while addressing families of the victims and community leaders following the kidnapping incident that occurred in the Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

According to Makinde, while the pain, anger, and frustration of residents are understandable, public demonstrations at this critical stage may complicate security operations aimed at securing the safe release of those held captive.

“We understand the concerns of the people, but I want to urge everyone not to engage in protests. Such actions could fuel the terrorists’ ego and make the situation more difficult for security agencies handling the matter,” the governor said.

Makinde assured residents that the state government, in collaboration with federal security agencies, is working tirelessly to ensure the victims are rescued unharmed and the perpetrators brought to justice.

The governor emphasized that intelligence gathering and coordinated security operations require discretion and public cooperation, noting that unnecessary public actions could disrupt ongoing efforts.

He also called for unity among political leaders, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders, stressing that the focus should remain on supporting affected families and assisting security agencies rather than assigning blame.

The appeal comes amid growing public concern over insecurity and rising cases of kidnapping across various parts of the country. Residents and advocacy groups have continued to demand stronger measures to protect schools and vulnerable communities.
Meanwhile, security agencies have intensified operations in the affected areas as efforts continue to secure the release of the abducted victims.
