Olayomi Koiki, who serves as Igboho’s media aide, made the remarks while reacting to criticism from some supporters of the Yoruba Nation movement who accused Igboho of betraying the agitation by backing Tinubu.
The spokesperson for Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has defended the activist’s support for Nigerian president, Bola Tinubu, insisting that Igboho’s decision is personal and cannot stop the broader agitation for Yoruba self-determination.
Olayomi Koiki, who serves as Igboho’s media aide, made the remarks while reacting to criticism from some supporters of the Yoruba Nation movement who accused Igboho of betraying the agitation by backing Tinubu.
Koiki stressed that Igboho is not the sole leader of the Yoruba Nation struggle, describing him as only one of several figures involved in the movement.
According to him, the agitation for a Yoruba Nation cannot be halted by any individual — including Igboho himself.
He said the activist’s political position should not be confused with the broader objective of the agitation.
According to Koiki, “Sunday Igboho is not the leader or the only person fighting for the Yoruba Nation agitation. He is just one among many people involved in the struggle.”
He added that the campaign for Yoruba self-determination has grown beyond the control of any single figure.
“No one can stop the emancipation of the Yoruba Nation agitation, not even Sunday Igboho himself,” he said.
Koiki also addressed the backlash that followed Igboho’s support for President Tinubu, insisting that the activist’s stance is a personal decision and should not be linked to the movement’s broader agenda.
“If you are angry about Sunday Igboho, that should not be related to the agenda of Igboho supporting Tinubu,” he said.
According to him, Igboho is determined to back Tinubu regardless of criticism from social media users or political commentators.
“Igboho is on the mission of supporting Tinubu without looking or considering anybody. Igboho is an adult and he has a wife and children. We can see what people are saying on social media and we don’t need to respond to it, because if we do, it means it has become a secret,” Koiki stated.
He further insisted that attempts to discredit the Yoruba activist would fail.
Koiki also argued that Tinubu already has a strong political structure that makes his continued leadership inevitable.
“Tinubu has his own structure of becoming president and there is nothing anyone can do about that,” he added.
The remarks come amid renewed debate among supporters of the Yoruba Nation movement over Igboho’s recent political alignment, with some activists accusing him of contradicting the struggle for regional autonomy by openly supporting the Nigerian president.
However, Koiki maintained that Igboho’s personal political choices do not invalidate the broader agitation for a sovereign Yoruba Nation, insisting that the movement will continue regardless of any individual’s stance.
