Katsina: Security operatives foil bandits’ attack, recover 117 rustled livestock
The Katsina State Police Command has announced the recovery of 117 livestock after a joint security operation foiled a cattle rustling attempt by suspected bandits in Charanchi Local Government Area.
In a statement issued by the command, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, said the operation followed credible intelligence that armed bandits attacked Saburu and Billiri villages on Tuesday and rustled several domestic animals.
He said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Charanchi swiftly mobilised tactical police operatives in collaboration with the military and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) to pursue the fleeing suspects.
According to the police spokesman, the joint security team strategically blocked the bandits’ escape routes, leading to a fierce gun battle.
“The superior firepower and coordinated efforts of the operatives forced the bandits to abandon the stolen livestock and flee into the surrounding bush,” Sadiq-Aliyu said.
He disclosed that security personnel recovered 43 cows and 74 sheep, bringing the total number of rescued animals to 117. He added that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commending the operatives for their bravery and professionalism, the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Umar-Fage, praised the collaboration among the police, the military and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps, describing the synergy as instrumental to the success of the operation.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Katsina State and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities.
