Iran has executed two of its citizens after accusing them of supplying Israel with sensitive military intelligence during the 12-day war in June and the subsequent hostilities between the two countries, according to Iranian state media.
The executions mark the latest step in Tehran’s crackdown on individuals it alleges collaborated with Israel during the conflict, as authorities intensify efforts to punish those accused of undermining the country’s national security, Times of Israel reports.

The 12-day conflict, which lasted from June 13 to June 24, 2025, saw intense exchanges of airstrikes and missile attacks between Iran and Israel, as well as U.S. military intervention. Although a ceasefire brought the fighting to an end, tensions and sporadic hostilities have persisted in the region.
According to Mizan, the judiciary-affiliated news agency, the two men were convicted of transmitting classified military information and the coordinates of sensitive security sites to Israel. The report alleged that the intelligence related to strategic military installations and security positions during the fighting.

Tehran has repeatedly accused Iran International of functioning as an intelligence front for foreign governments, an allegation the broadcaster has consistently denied. Iranian officials have frequently linked the outlet to hostile activities targeting the Islamic Republic.
The latest executions come amid heightened tensions between Iran and Israel following months of military confrontation and reciprocal strikes. Iranian authorities have intensified investigations into suspected espionage networks, arresting and prosecuting individuals accused of cooperating with foreign intelligence agencies.
State media have increasingly publicized such cases, portraying them as part of broader efforts to dismantle alleged Israeli intelligence operations inside Iran. Officials have maintained that those found guilty of espionage or assisting foreign adversaries would face the country’s harshest legal penalties.
While Iranian authorities insist the convictions followed legal proceedings, rights groups have repeatedly expressed concern over Iran’s use of the death penalty, particularly in national security and espionage cases. International human rights organizations have also called for greater transparency in judicial processes involving capital punishment.
The executions mark another escalation in Iran’s response to alleged intelligence breaches, with the government signaling that it will continue to pursue and punish individuals accused of collaborating with Israel as tensions between the two regional rivals remain high.
Amid the Middle East crisis, Israel earlier in July publicly acknowledged that the United States launched recent air strikes on Iran from Israeli airbases, with the country’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, stating that American military aircraft operated from Israeli territory during the attacks.
The disclosure marks one of the clearest official admissions by an Israeli government official regarding Israel’s role in supporting recent US military operations against Iran, at a time of heightened tensions across the Middle East.
Speaking in an interview with Channel 14, Katz said Iranian authorities were fully aware that American aircraft had been using Israeli facilities during the military campaign.
“They [Iranians] know that American aircraft are taking off from here and refuelling aircraft are taking off from here to strike,” Katz said.
The defence minister also suggested that Iran had deliberately avoided targeting Israel directly during the recent exchange of hostilities with the United States despite being aware of Israel’s involvement.
“The Iranians have been firing at everything apart from one country, the state of Israel,” he added.
