I can’t promise everything, Fubara pledges focus before 2027 exit

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has said the limited time left in his tenure will not stop his administration from delivering quality projects that will improve the lives of residents.

Fubara said his administration would continue to provide critical infrastructure and address pressing development needs before leaving office in 2027.

The governor stated this on Tuesday while inaugurating the 12.1km Egwi-Afara-Mba Road in Etche Local Government Area of the state.

Recall that Fubara had announced his withdrawal from the governorship race, saying his decision not to seek re-election in next year’s general elections was in the interest of peace and development in Rivers State.

Fubara said his administration would not ignore critical needs because of time constraints, stressing that the essence of governance was to improve the lives of the people.

He expressed confidence that unfinished projects would be completed by the next administration under the All Progressives Congress.

“What is governance all about? Governance is providing services, protection of lives and properties. Governance is, you can’t solve every problem, but you must try to meet the needs of the people.

“I want to thank and commend you because you are not going to be here forever. But what you’re doing is the things that will speak for you in future,” the governor stated.

Fubara said the completed road would boost business activities and reduce insecurity in Etche Local Government Area, promising to extend it to Ndashi community and complete the General Hospital in the area.

He said healthcare remained an area his administration would prioritise despite the limited time left in his tenure.

According to him, “We have a very limited time, and because of that I can’t stand here and promise you everything. But one aspect we will not play with presently, no matter how right it is for us, is the issue of healthcare.”

The governor said his administration had commenced the rehabilitation and reconstruction of zonal hospitals across the state, with projects in Bori, Omoku and Degema either completed or nearing completion.

“The only one that we have not done much is that of Etche. But let me promise you that by the special grace of God before we exit, there will be a standard hospital to cater for the people of Etche and Omuma,” he said.

Fubara also assured the people of Etche that his administration would consider their request for the construction of the road leading to Ndashi.

“On the request about the road leading to Ndash, we will look at it and assure you that for the sake of the Onye Ishi Etche we will do something about it,” he added.

The governor said the completion of the Egwi-Afara-Mba Road was significant because the project was initiated in 2024 during a difficult period for his administration.

He recalled that despite the challenges confronting the government, work on the project continued until its completion.

“It was a long and difficult project, but I said even while we are going through these challenges, we still have to be working because at the end of the day what posterity records is not the reason for your failures but the little things that you achieved,” Fubara said.

He described the 12.1km road as a major infrastructural investment that would leave a lasting mark on Etche.

“It takes only a government that understands the need and desires to make a mark wherever it steps its foot on. As we have put our mark in Etche today and it will continue to be here,” he said.

Fubara also commended the Etche Local Government Chairman, Bonnyface Njoku, for his efforts in providing street lighting and electricity and enhancing the security of lives and property in the area.

He said, “I strongly believe that my successor will complete whatever we have started for you.”

The governor thanked the people of Etche for their support, expressing confidence that all outstanding works would be completed for the benefit of Rivers State residents.

In his project description, the Commissioner for Works, Prof. Temple Nwofor, said the 12.1km road links Egwi, Afara and Mba and connects to the local government headquarters at Okehi.

Nwofor said the road was built to standard, with 10.2km of drainage, culverts, road shoulders and other ancillary works.

He added that the road, awarded on October 29, 2024, was completed on schedule, describing it as a testament to the commitment of the Fubara administration to providing quality projects across the state.
