How governor Uba Sani mocked Nasir El-rufai over fundamental rights violation claim
The governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani has warned journalists to be wary of Nasir El-rufai whom he indirectly referred to as latter-day activist.
The governor insinuated that the country faces threat from disgruntled politicians who are determined to scuttling Nigeria’s democracy when the government policies do not favour them.
Governor Uba Sani made the remark while addressing journalists after breaking Ramadan fast with journalists at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House.
Governor Uba Sani who did not mention Nasir El-rufai’s name, apparently described him as one of the “latter day activists”, claiming that the said politicians do not have the interest of the poor and ordinary Nigerians at heart as they are unbothered about development healthcare, human capital development, infrastructure, employment and empowerment, etc,. According to him, these set of politicians usually exploit Nigeria’s diversity such as religion and ethnicity to divide the country and achieve their selfish goals.
Rather, they dwell on ethnicity and religion which divide the country. When campaigns begin, they will focus on these issues instead of focusing on matters that affect all Nigerians irrespective of ethno-religious affiliations”, he stated.
Governor Uba Sani enjoined the journalists to resist these unpatriotic politicians in order to secure the country’s democratic gains, stating that the contribution of journalists in Nigeria’s democracy can not be overstated.
When we were in the struggle, we the Civil Rights activists, relied mostly on journalists. Most of them lost their freedoms. Some of them lost their lives when we were fighting for democracy.’’
We can’t talk of democracy today without the contribution of journalists. So, you have to be vigilant about these category of politicians who are conflict merchants.’’
The governor seemingly taunted Nasir El-rufai over claim that his fundamental rights are being violated through his continued detention.
what do they know about fundamental human rights? What do they know about freedom? What do they know about the rule of law? What do they know about equality? What do they know about justice?’’
He also insinuated that the government of Nasir El-rufai was negligent of key areas of development, alleging that healthcare facilities in Kaduna State were overlooked by the Nasir El-rufai’s administration.
Out of 32 secondary hospitals that we have in Kaduna State, only five were equipped and functional when we came in. Today, we are renovating, equipping and remodelling 15 out of the 32.
‘We had about 580,000 out-of-school-children in Kaduna State according to the National Bureau of Statistics. We have reduced the number to 182,000. Together with Kuwait Development Fund, Islamic Development Bank, UNICEF and other Development Partners, we will build additional 102 schools,’’ he disclosed.
