A shocking humanitarian tragedy has emerged from Kaduna State after a 28-year-old abducted woman reportedly gave birth inside a kidnappers’ camp while her legs remained chained in captivity.
The victim, identified as Victoria Simeon, is said to be among the 37 worshippers abducted from Ariko Community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State during an attack carried out by armed kidnappers earlier this year.
According to reports, the woman delivered her baby inside the kidnappers’ den under extremely harsh and inhumane conditions, allegedly without proper medical care, clean water, clothing, or basic humanitarian support.
Sources involved in negotiations with the abductors reportedly disclosed that the kidnappers themselves contacted community members to announce the birth of the child. The victim was allegedly forced to give birth while still in chains, with both mother and newborn exposed to severe hardship inside the forest camp.
Community sources further claimed that the abductors are still demanding a massive ransom reportedly including ₦1 billion and dozens of motorcycles before releasing the remaining captives.
The abducted worshippers were reportedly taken from St. Augustine Catholic Church and the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Ariko Community and are believed to be held somewhere within the Rijana forest axis along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway.
The development has triggered outrage and emotional reactions across Nigeria, with many citizens condemning the worsening insecurity crisis and the continued vulnerability of rural communities, worship centres, and travelers to mass abductions.
Human rights advocates and security analysts say the latest incident highlights the deteriorating humanitarian conditions faced by kidnap victims across several parts of northern Nigeria, especially women and children trapped in captivity for extended periods.
The report also comes amid growing public concern over the increasing frequency of kidnappings, bandit attacks, and ransom demands across Kaduna State and other parts of the country.
As of the time of filing this report, there had been no official confirmation from Kaduna State authorities regarding the woman’s childbirth in captivity or fresh rescue operations involving the remaining abductees.
