Gunmen Attack Vigilante Office In Anambra, Kill Operative, Burn Post And Five Vehicles
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Thursday night.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has strongly condemned the attack on vigilante operatives in Umunze Community, Orumba South Local Government Area, which led to the killing of one operative.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Thursday night.
According to the statement, Orutugu urged residents to support police efforts to apprehend those responsible.
Ikenga said the attack, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, saw suspected armed men storm the vigilante office, setting five operational vehicles ablaze.
During a gunfight with the attackers, one security operative was fatally injured, and part of the office was also damaged.
In response, the Police-led Joint Security Force has taken over the scene and launched operations to track down the perpetrators.
CP Orutugu called on local residents to provide credible information to aid the ongoing efforts.
“The unfortunate incident happened in the early hours of today 5th June 2025 where the suspected armed men attacked the vigilante’s office at Umunze and set five of their operational vehicles ablaze,” Ikenga said in the statement.
“The Security Operatives in an attempt to resist the gunmen during the gun duel recorded a fatal injury on one of the Security Operatives. Some part of the security office also got burnt by the hoodlums.”
