Oyo State Governor, Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde, has explained the reasons behind the removal of the former Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Olubamiwo Adeyemo, as he officially swore in Professor Musibau Adetunji Babatunde as the new SSG.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Monday, January 12, at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, where Makinde reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to effective governance, accountability, and sustainable development.
According to the governor, the decision to disengage Adeyemo was part of a strategic move to reposition his government for greater efficiency and performance as the administration enters a crucial phase of its tenure. Makinde stated that leadership requires making difficult decisions when necessary to ensure that the government remains focused on delivering its mandate to the people.
He noted that the appointment of Professor Babatunde, a seasoned academic and administrator, was driven by the need to inject fresh ideas, competence, and renewed energy into the machinery of government.
Makinde assured the people of Oyo State that the changes in his cabinet were not punitive but corrective and forward-looking, aimed at strengthening coordination among ministries, departments, and agencies.
While congratulating the new SSG, the governor charged him to bring professionalism, discipline, and transparency to his new role, adding that his administration would “finish strong” by delivering on its promises of good governance, infrastructure development, and people-oriented policies.
Professor Babatunde, in his acceptance remarks, expressed gratitude to the governor for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to serve with dedication, integrity, and loyalty to the vision of the Makinde administration.
He promised to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure the smooth running of government and the successful implementation of policies and programmes that will improve the lives of the people of Oyo State.
The event was attended by top government officials, members of the State Executive Council, traditional rulers, and party leaders, who welcomed the new SSG and expressed optimism about the new phase in the state’s governance.
