Government declares 1 September work-free day
The Kano State Government has declared Tuesday, September 1, 2026, a work-free day to enable residents to celebrate Takutaha, an annual traditional and religious occasion observed across the state.Geographic Reference
The declaration was contained in Circular No. 7/2026, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Abba A. Danguguwa, on behalf of the Head of Service.
According to the circular, the work-free day coincides with 19th Rabi’ul Awwal, 1448AH, and was approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The government described Takutaha as an important traditional and religious occasion with deep spiritual and cultural significance to the people of Kano, noting that it forms part of the state’s Islamic heritage.Geographic Reference

It urged civil servants to use the occasion for prayers, supplications and spiritual reflection, particularly to seek divine blessings for continued peace, unity, stability and prosperity in Kano State and Nigeria.
