Fresh Crisis Rocks APC as Stakeholders Reject Key Campaign Council Appointments
Fresh cracks have emerged within the APC in Taraba State, as some party stakeholders have accused Governor Agbu Kefas and the Director General of the Moving Forward Agenda 2027, Rt. Hon. Danladi Baido Tijos of sidelining the Mumuye, Hausa/Fulani and Kuteb communities in the recent appointments into the executive campaign council.
According to the aggrieved stakeholders, the controversy followed the appointment of Rt. Hon. (Prof.) Joseph Albasu Kunini as Deputy Director General for Taraba North.
They argued that Prof. Kunini is from the Kunini ethnic group which according to them does not constitute a single ward in Lau Local Government Area. They maintained that despite the Director General himself being from Karim Lamido, the position should have gone to the Mumuye community which they said has a significant presence in Zing, Yorro, Jalingo, Lau, Karim Lamido, Ardo Kola, Bali and even Gassol Local Government Areas.
Some Hausa/Fulani stakeholders also argued that the Deputy Director General position for Taraba North should have been allocated to their community, having visibility present in all LGAs of the zone.
In Taraba South, the appointment of Rt. Hon. Josiah Sabo Kente as Secretary of the campaign council has also generated significant resistance from some Kuteb and Ichen stakeholders who argued that Josiah being from Wukari (the same Local Government Area as Governor Agbu Kefas) and already serving as the Governor’s Political Adviser, he should not have been given another strategic role in the campaign structure.
The stakeholders noted that Dr. Bulus Maiyaki was appointed as Deputy Director General, saying this means the Chamba ethnic group is represented. However, they argued that the Ichen and Kuteb communities have not been represented in the executive leadership of the campaign council.
Similarly, in Taraba Central, some stakeholders questioned the appointment of Hon. Kabiru Jalo as Deputy Director General, arguing that he is from the Jibu ethnic group which they claimed does not constitute a majority in any single LGA of the Central Zone.
The stakeholders warned that if the composition of the campaign council is not revisited to accommodate other major ethnic groups, they may boycott the campaign activities ahead of the Taraba 2027 governorship election.
