Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have apprehended five Nigerians believed to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for their alleged involvement in an armed robbery operation in Sharjah, Dubai.

According to credible security sources, the suspects were arrested after a swift response from Dubai Police, following a violent robbery that netted the criminals about Dh2.3 million. The stolen funds, equivalent to several billions of Naira, were recovered during the arrest.
The suspects have been identified as:
Chimuanya Emmanuel Ozoh
Benjamin Nwachukwu Ajah
Kingsley Ikenna Ngoka
Tochukwu Leonard Alisi
Chile Micah Ndunagu
Reports indicate that the group had traveled to the UAE under the guise of seeking better economic opportunities but later engaged in organized criminal activities, targeting business owners and expatriates in the Sharjah area.
Dubai Police have launched a full investigation into the case, while Nigerian authorities are reportedly being briefed on the development. The suspects are expected to face prosecution under UAE laws for armed robbery, money laundering, and related offenses.
This arrest has once again raised concerns about the activities of IPOB members abroad and the potential impact of such incidents on Nigeria’s global image.
Many Nigerians have condemned the act, calling for stiffer penalties for citizens who engage in crimes abroad, while others urge caution against generalizing the actions of a few individuals to an entire ethnic or political group.
The UAE authorities have reaffirmed their zero-tolerance policy toward criminal activities, promising to ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.
