FG Considers Chinese Firm to Solve Electricity Problems Within 6 Months — Power Minister

The Federal Government has disclosed plans to partner with a Chinese engineering company as part of efforts to address Nigeria’s lingering electricity challenges within the next six months.
The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, revealed this while speaking on ongoing reforms in the nation’s power sector, stressing that the administration is determined to improve electricity generation, transmission, and distribution across the country.

According to the minister, the proposed collaboration with the Chinese firm is aimed at deploying advanced technology and technical expertise capable of stabilising the national grid and improving power supply to homes, businesses, and industries.

He explained that the government is exploring practical and result-oriented solutions that can deliver noticeable improvements within a short period, noting that Nigerians have endured unstable electricity for too long.

The minister added that the partnership could involve infrastructure upgrades, rehabilitation of critical power facilities, and the introduction of modern systems to reduce frequent grid collapses and power outages.

He expressed confidence that with the right investment and technical support, Nigeria’s electricity sector can witness significant progress within six months if all necessary agreements are finalised and implemented effectively.

The development comes amid growing concerns from citizens and business owners over poor power supply, rising electricity tariffs, and the negative impact of energy instability on economic activities.

Many Nigerians have continued to rely heavily on generators and alternative energy sources due to inconsistent electricity distribution from the national grid.

The Federal Government, however, insists that ongoing reforms and strategic international partnerships will help reposition the power sector and improve electricity access nationwide.
Further details regarding the identity of the Chinese company and the scope of the proposed agreement are expected to emerge in the coming weeks.
