Ekiti Senators Must Rise to Their Responsibilities – Afuye”
EKITI SENATORS: RISE TO YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
As an Ekiti son, a political analyst, and a committed activist, I, Comrade Idowu Afuye, speak not for personal interest but for the collective progress of our beloved state.
Some may say, “Afuye is from Ekiti South, why talk about Ekiti North?” My answer is simple: Ekiti is one. The development of our state is paramount, regardless of senatorial district.
Our representatives in the National Assembly all three senators and members of the House of Representatives — must be accountable to the people who elected them. They are in Abuja to represent us, not to enrich themselves at the expense of our commonwealth. We have every right to question their performance and demand transparency.
No intimidation, no threat, and no political sentiment will silence me. I am the voice of the voiceless, the hope of the hopeless, and I will continue to speak the truth without fear or favor.
Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO) is making efforts to move Ekiti forward, but the task of development is not his alone. Our National Assembly members have a constitutional duty to complement his work through effective legislation, robust advocacy, and proactive engagement with federal agencies.
Sadly, our federal roads remain in terrible condition. This has become a weapon in the hands of the opposition to attack the governor. But these roads are under federal jurisdiction — it is the responsibility of our senators to deliberate on them, push for repairs, and ensure they are fixed.
We must also ask: How many bills have our senators sponsored that are meaningful and beneficial to Ekiti people? What impact have they made that can be felt across our communities?
If you doubt what is possible, look beyond Ekiti. Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola from Ogun State and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from Kogi State have demonstrated tangible achievements and visible interventions for their people. Why can’t we have the same here?
The time for excuses is over. Our senators must rise, be accountable, and truly serve the people they represent. Ekiti people are watching, and history will judge.
