Court Sentences Mosque Arsonist to Death, 150 Strokes of Cane

A Kano Shari’a Court has sentenced 38-year-old Shafi’u Abubakar to death by hanging and 150 lashes for setting a mosque ablaze in Gezawa LGA, killing 23 worshippers.

The court found him guilty of culpable homicide, attempted murder, grievous hurt, and arson. Abubakar, who confessed to the crime, has 30 days to appeal.
