Court Dismisses Gani Adams’ N5 Billion Defamation Suit Against Sunday Igboho

An Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has dismissed a N5 billion defamation suit filed by Chief Gani Adams, the Aare-Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, against Chief Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho.

Justice O.T. Ademola-Salami delivered the ruling, which also awarded N500,000 in costs against Adams in favor of Igboho.

Adams had claimed that Igboho violated his fundamental rights by recording a private telephone conversation without consent, breaching Section 37 of the 1999 Constitution.

However, Igboho’s counsel argued that Adams’ affidavit was defective, as it was not personally deposed by him or someone authorized by him.

The court ruled in favor of Igboho, stating that Adams’ affidavit was indeed defective and that he failed to demonstrate that his phone had been tapped by Igboho.
