Army Recovers Arms, Neutralises IEDs During Sambisa Forest Offensive

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have recovered arms and ammunition and safely detonated several improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity V in the Sambisa Forest, Borno State.

The operation, conducted around 9:00 a.m. on Dec. 29, involved troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, working alongside volunteer forces.
Sources said troops advanced from their harbour area, clearing several deserted terrorist enclaves around the Dure axis before moving to the Century Wolf area, south of Dure.

The area was described as having thick vegetation, and no significant items were found during the initial phase.

The troops later reached the Sabil Huda enclave, previously assessed as highly active but abandoned by terrorists before their arrival. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams scanned the enclave to allow for safe exploitation by troops.

During the operation, troops recovered:
Three AK-47 rifles
Four AK-47 magazines
37 rounds of 7.62×54mm ammunition
38 rounds of 7.62×51mm ammunition
33 rounds of 7.62×39mm ammunition
Two hand grenades
Life-support structures within the enclave were destroyed, and four additional IEDs discovered were safely detonated.
