In a bold and unconventional move that has taken Nigerian social media by storm, a passionate supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced his plan to trek on foot from Bauchi State to Abuja, the nation’s capital. His mission? To demonstrate that Nigeria is secure and to counter what he describes as “propaganda” against the current administration.
The unidentified man, widely described online as a die-hard APC loyalist and content creator, made the declaration in a viral video circulating on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and X. Speaking directly to the camera, he declared with conviction: “Hello guys, I’m taking this campaign to the next level. I will be trekking from Bauchi to Abuja by the roadside to show you how safe Nigeria is, okay? And there is 100% security. I just want to end the propaganda against President Tinubu.”
With President Tinubu’s first term well underway and eyes already turning toward the 2027 general elections, political observers see the trek as an early, grassroots-style campaign effort. The supporter aims to project an image of stability and safety under the “Renewed Hope” agenda, directly challenging critics who point to ongoing security challenges, banditry, and kidnapping in parts of the North.
The distance from Bauchi to Abuja is approximately 400-450 kilometers, depending on the route. Undertaking such a journey on foot would typically take weeks, exposing the trekker to highways, rural communities, and varying terrain. Supporters have wished him a safe trip, hailing the act as a powerful statement of loyalty and patriotism. Others, however, have reacted with a mix of amusement, skepticism, and dark humor, with some social media users joking about the very risks he claims do not exist.
This is not the first time trekking has been used as a form of political expression in Nigeria. In previous election cycles, several individuals undertook long-distance walks to show support for candidates, including Tinubu himself during his 2023 presidential bid.
