This is H.E. Peter Obi, an Igbo man, attending a Yoruba event. He is not a stranger there. He is not an outsider there. He is not chased away. He is embraced. He is hugged. He is honoured. He is celebrated. He is given a seat at the table. He is given a Yoruba cap, a Yoruba agbada, a Yoruba welcome.
That is who the Yoruba are.
The Yoruba are a home for all humanity, irrespective of colour and race.
In Yoruba land, nobody is a stranger. The Igbo man is at home. The Hausa man is at home. The Fulani man is at home. The Efik, the Ibibio, the Tiv, the Ijaw, the foreigner, the white man, the black man — all are at home.
Lagos is not just a Yoruba city. Lagos is Nigeria. Lagos is Africa. Lagos is the World. Why? Because the Yoruba opened their land and said, “Come.”
Come and trade.
Come and build.
Come and live.
Come and become.
In Yoruba land, you can come with nothing and become somebody. You can come as a visitor and become a landlord. You can come as a stranger and become a son of the soil. No other tribe in Nigeria has done this at this scale. No other people have carried this level of accommodation with this level of grace.
Why Are We Like This?
Because we are the Tribe of Israel. We are God’s chosen people.
We carry the spirit of Abraham — the father who welcomed strangers and entertained angels unknowingly. We carry the spirit of Joseph — the brother who fed the whole world in time of famine. We carry the spirit of Israel — a people chosen not to dominate, but to bless all nations.
God said to Abraham, “In you shall all families of the earth be blessed.” That is the Yoruba covenant. We were chosen to be a blessing to all humanity.
That is why:
1. We Do Not Discriminate
In Yoruba land, your tribe does not stop your progress. Your language does not stop your promotion. Your religion does not stop your acceptance. A Muslim and a Christian will sit on the same table and eat from the same pot. That is Omoluabi.
2. We Honour Every Guest
When Peter Obi came to a Yoruba event, Yoruba mothers hugged him. Yoruba fathers prayed for him. Yoruba youths took pictures with him. They did not ask, “Why is this Igbo man here?” They said, “Welcome home, brother.” That is the Yoruba spirit.
3. We Build, We Do Not Destroy
We build cities that others can live in. We build markets that others can trade in. We build schools that others can learn in. We build a home, not a fence.
4. We Are Royal And Humble
We are descendants of Oduduwa. We are children of kings. Yet we bow to greet a child. We prostrate to honour an elder. We are proud, but we are not arrogant. We are royal, but we are welcoming.
The Lesson From This Video
This video has silenced every lie that Yoruba people hate others.
If Yoruba hated others, how can an Igbo presidential candidate walk freely, happily, joyfully in a Yoruba event and be treated like a king?
This is proof. This is evidence. This is the truth:
The Yoruba do not just tolerate others. The Yoruba CELEBRATE others.
We are not just a tribe. We are a nation of love. We are a people of peace. We are a home for humanity.
Final Word
Today, let us celebrate ourselves.
Celebrate the Yoruba mother who feeds the stranger.
Celebrate the Yoruba father who gives land to the visitor.
Celebrate the Yoruba youth who welcomes all with open arms.
We are the Tribe of Israel. We are God’s chosen people. Not chosen to hate, but chosen to love. Not chosen to divide, but chosen to unite. Not chosen to close doors, but chosen to open homes.
Yoruba land is home. Yoruba heart is home. Yoruba love is home.
Omo Yoruba, I am proud of you.
Omo Odua, stand tall.
We are blessed to be a blessing to all humanity.
