MultiChoice scraps Africa Magic Family after 12 years
MultiChoice has discontinued its famous Africa Magic Family channel after 12 years, replacing it with a new entertainment channel, Africa Magic+, as part of changes to its DStv offerings.

The development was announced on Thursday through Africa Magic’s official Instagram page, which described the closure as the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
In the announcement, the channel bade farewell to its viewers with the message, “Goodbye, Africa Magic Family”, adding that the closure would usher in a new offering.
“One chapter closes, but the story is far from over.
“Africa Magic Family is officially closed, there’s so much more coming your way,” the post read.

The announcement marked the end of Africa Magic Family’s 12-year run on DStv, where it was known for broadcasting family-friendly Nollywood films, Nigerian drama series and other African entertainment programmes.
The channel had built an audience among viewers interested in locally produced movies and television dramas, particularly Nigerian stories.
Its replacement, Africa Magic+, is expected to offer a broader mix of entertainment.
The change comes amid a wider restructuring of DStv’s channel line-up and subscription packages, which took effect on November 5, 2026.
The replacement is part of MultiChoice’s wider effort to refresh its programming and expand the range of content available to viewers.
