Peter Obi Meets EU Ambassadors, Seeks Support For 2027 Elections

The 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has urged the international community to support Nigerians’ right to freely elect their leaders in a peaceful and credible electoral process.

Obi made the appeal after meeting with ambassadors of European Union (EU) member countries in Abuja on Thursday, November 5.

The former Anambra State governor disclosed the meeting in a statement shared on his X handle on Friday, November 6, saying discussions focused on governance, the welfare of Nigerians, the rising cost of living and the forthcoming elections.

He said he reiterated his call for international support to protect the country’s democratic process and ensure that Nigerians could freely determine who governs them.Buy Maps

“I reiterated my appeal to the international community to support the democratic right of Nigerians to freely and fairly choose their leaders in a peaceful environment. The international community should stand with the Nigerian people in defending this fundamental right,” Obi stated.

He maintained that the right of citizens to choose their leaders remained central to democratic governance.

“The very essence of democracy is respect for the right of citizens to freely make their choices and determine who governs them,” he said.

The meeting with the EU ambassadors followed Obi’s engagement with the British High Commissioner to Nigeria on Thursday, during which he also raised concerns about governance, Nigerians’ welfare and the forthcoming elections.

Obi thanked the European Union Commission for the invitation, describing the meeting as an opportunity for important discussions on Nigeria’s democratic future.
