Wike breaks silence on Link To Court Judgement Against Uzodimma over APC Imo-West Ticket

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has denied any involvement in the Federal High Court judgement nullifying the recognition of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Imo-West senatorial district in the 2027 elections.Access Services

Wike described allegations linking him to the judgement as mischievous, insisting that he did not know of the internal political disputes within the APC that led to the court action.

The minister spoke during his monthly media chat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Thursday, where he also challenged Uzodimma to explain his opposition to the Rainbow Coalition initiative.

Wike acknowledged his disagreement with the Imo governor over the political initiative but maintained that the dispute did not mean he was involved in the legal challenge against Uzodimma’s senatorial ambition.

He said, “I didn’t go to court; I’m not from APC. People are saying that, because the day before that judgement he had openly warned his people that there’s no Rainbow Coalition; if I see you, I’ll collect the vehicle. So when the judgement came, they said it was me. How could it have been me?”

Questioning the governor’s opposition to the initiative, Wike asked: “What is Hope Uzodinma afraid of in the Rainbow Coalition?”

The former Rivers State governor argued that political leaders should concentrate on securing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 rather than allowing disagreements over political alliances to distract them.

He maintained that the overriding objective should be to ensure the President wins another term, questioning why any initiative aimed at achieving that goal should generate opposition.

“Your business is to make sure Mr President wins elections. At the national assembly level, so many factors come in, including zoning,” he said.

Wike also defended his friendship with former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, dismissing suggestions that their relationship should be a source of political concern.

“I owe no apologies that Rochas is my friend; after all, he has friends in Rivers State that are my political enemies; will I go and kill them? No!!” he said.

He further challenged Uzodimma to demonstrate his political strength rather than oppose the coalition, adding: “If he’s a strong man, he shouldn’t be afraid. You’re strong; whatever you see, you take!”
