One Killed, Two Injured As Helicopter Crashes Into Biscayne Bay In Florida

According to NBC 6 South Florida, the Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a Robinson R44 helicopter, which crashed into the water east of Miami Executive Airport at approximately 11:15 a.m.

Ahelicopter carrying three people crashed into Biscayne Bay near Key Biscayne, Florida, on Wednesday, killing one person and leaving two others injured.

The United States Coast Guard confirmed the death, saying the two survivors were rescued and transported to hospital for further medical attention. The incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m., triggering a joint rescue operation involving several emergency agencies.

According to NBC 6 South Florida, the Federal Aviation Administration identified the aircraft as a Robinson R44 helicopter, which crashed into the water east of Miami Executive Airport at approximately 11:15 a.m.

The FAA said three people were aboard the aircraft when the incident occurred and confirmed that the National Transportation Safety Board would join the investigation.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said it received reports of the crash at about 11:26 a.m. and responded alongside the City of Miami Fire Rescue and Key Biscayne Fire Rescue.

The emergency agency disclosed that two adult victims were treated as trauma alert patients before being transported by ground rescue teams to a designated landing zone.

They were subsequently airlifted by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a major trauma centre for further treatment.

Miami Fire Rescue identified the two survivors as men, although their ages and relationship were not immediately disclosed.

Footage from the scene showed what appeared to be the helicopter overturned in the water, with its landing skids partially visible above the surface. Rescue personnel were also seen operating around No Name Harbor inside Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, where emergency responders attended to the victims.

information from FlightAware indicated that a helicopter of the same model had been flying over Biscayne Bay for approximately five minutes before recording a sudden drop in altitude at around 11:17 a.m.

The tracking platform also showed that the aircraft had departed North Perry Airport earlier in the morning.

The National Transportation Safety Board subsequently confirmed that it was investigating the November 4 crash.

The FAA and NTSB are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, including what caused the helicopter to go down.

The crash comes amid renewed concerns over aviation safety in the United States following a recent deadly recent private jet accident in Florida.

On Sunday, a Learjet 60 travelling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas crashed into Military Trail in Palm Beach, killing all nine people aboard.

Investigators in the Learjet crash said there was evidence that parts of the aircraft may have broken off before impact, while severe weather conditions were among the major areas being examined.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the helicopter crash victims or determined what caused the aircraft to plunge into Biscayne Bay. The investigation by the FAA and NTSB is ongoing.
