MESSAGE TO NIGER DELTA YOUTHS: THE NEED FOR PEACE, UNITY AND RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP

OMEUDO WASN’T JUST A NAME, IT WAS EARNED THROUGH SERVICE TO RESTIVE OHAJI/EGBEMA.
Imo Niger Delta did not become peaceful by chance, there were sacrifices behind it. The name Omeudo was not just a title, it was earned through courage, commitment, and service.
We all witnessed the role played by Hon. Uju Kingsley Chima MFR (Omeudo) during one of the most difficult periods in Ohaji/Egbema’s history. At a time when the area was marked by violence, killings, destruction of property, and disruptions to oil and gas operations, many leaders reportedly stayed away for their safety. Economic activities were crippled, and the state was losing vital revenue.
Political leaders fled to Abuja, while others abandoned our communities and relocated to Owerri. It was not until Omeudo stepped forward that some of them found renewed reasons to return home.
During that crisis, under the administration of His Excellency Rochas Okorocha, Uju Kingsley Chima engaged directly with affected communities and aggrieved groups, taking personal risks to initiate dialogue. He ventured into difficult terrain, faced hostility, and continued negotiations until trust began to develop.
Through persistence, dialogue, and collaboration with other leaders, many youths embraced amnesty and laid down their arms. Ohaji /Egbema and Oguta resteive youths embraced amnesty. That process contributed to the restoration of relative peace, creating room for investors and oil companies to return and economic activities to resume. Hon. Uju also played a role in facilitating the RIGHT-OF-WAY FOR THE MODULAR REFINERY IN OHAJI/EGBEMA.
Many were surprised that Hon. Uju Kingsley Chima emerged alive from those negotiations. As the only child of his parents, he reportedly put his life on the line despite the risks and the concerns his family would naturally have had. He had a wife and young children, yet he accepted the responsibility of engaging those involved in the crisis. Together with his team, he contributed to the peacebuilding efforts that helped Ohaji/Egbema through that difficult period.
Today, concerns are being raised about the stability of the peace achieved then and the need to protect it from future threats.
The truth remains: “Onye ma ùfere, ọkwa lachià.”
Leadership is not merely about occupying an office, it is about responsibility, courage, engagement, and results. Our past experiences show that sustainable peace in Ohaji/Egbema requires sincerity, meaningful dialogue, and a willingness to make sacrifices for the greater good of our people.
“Egbua dike la, ogu ụlọ odajịe achọ dike.”
We need leadership that prioritises our youths, promotes civility, and focuses on issues of genuine importance to our communities. We must work together to stop the killings and recurring crises that have bedevilled our communities. The lives of our young people must not be wasted, and our future must not be sacrificed to violence.
As the 2027 elections approach, the record of Hon. Uju Kingsley Chima MFR (Omeudo) deserves to be considered alongside the records, programmes, and commitments of other candidates. His supporters believe that his previous peacebuilding efforts offer an important lesson about the value of dialogue and community engagement.
OUR YOUTHS DESERVE PEACE. OUR COMMUNITIES DESERVE DEVELOPMENT. OUR FUTURE DESERVES PROTECTION.
The contributions of Hon. Uju Kingsley Chima (Omeudo) may be debated, but his role in the peacebuilding efforts of a critical period remains part of the region’s history.
As we look towards 2027, let us encourage peaceful political participation, issue based campaigns, and the protection of every vote. Let no young person become a victim of political violence. Let our differences never become reasons to destroy our communities.
Niger Delta people are calling for the return of Hon. Uju Kingsley Chima MFR to the House of Representatives under the platform of the Action People’s Party (APP 🐘) for the Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency.
COME OUT, PARTICIPATE PEACEFULLY, AND MAKE YOUR VOTE COUNT.
Let us work together for peace, responsible leadership, and a future in which our people can smile again. Nobody benefits when our communities are engulfed in violence.
Truth is brief and it has no substitute
