I Have Captured Rivers State for Tinubu – Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he has captured Rivers State for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Port Harcourt while addressing supporters under the Rivers Rainbow Coalition, Wike asserted firm control of the state’s political structure and pledged overwhelming support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“I have captured Rivers State for Tinubu,” Wike was quoted as saying, emphasising that the state and the Federal Capital Territory already belong to the President and not to opposition figures he described as serial contestants or social media presidents.
The former Rivers State governor highlighted the benefits the state has received under the Tinubu administration, including an unprecedented number of federal appointments for Rivers indigenes—put at no fewer than 49 prominent positions—and major infrastructure projects such as the Bonny-Bodo road and bridge network.
Wike urged youths and political stakeholders to mobilise across all 23 local government areas, insisting that strong electoral performance in 2027 would secure even greater federal rewards, appointments, and national relevance for Rivers State. He stressed that the Rainbow Coalition had come to stay and would formally unveil its candidates, including for the governorship.
The minister’s comments come amid ongoing efforts to consolidate support across former rival camps in the state. He has repeatedly called for unity behind Tinubu, arguing that alignment with the federal government remains the most effective path to development and political influence for Rivers people.
Wike, who continues to play a central role in Rivers politics despite his federal appointment, has maintained that the state delivered for Tinubu in 2023 and is positioned to do so again on a larger scale. Supporters at the gathering responded with chants in favour of the President as the minister reinforced the message that Rivers is firmly in Tinubu’s corner.
