Terrorists Abduct Yauri-Abuja Passengers, Force Victims At Gunpoint To Beg Relatives For Ransom In Video

SaharaReporters gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday, with the driver of the vehicle also abducted alongside the passengers.

Gunmen suspected to be terrorists have kidnapped passengers travelling from Yauri in Kebbi State to Abuja, forcing them to contact their relatives and appeal for assistance while armed with AK-47 rifles.

SaharaReporters gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday, with the driver of the vehicle also abducted alongside the passengers.

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, more than 10 victims appear to be held captive by the suspected bandits, with some of them tied up and blindfolded with pieces of cloth.

The footage shows the armed captors pointing AK-47 rifles at the victims as they compel them to speak to their family members and send messages appealing for support, apparently to facilitate ransom payments.

One of the victims is seen making a phone call to his mother while a suspected bandit points a rifle at the captives, underscoring the fear and intimidation they are being subjected to.

In another part of the video, one of the suspected bandits is seen holding a gun to the driver’s head and asking him to send a message to his relatives.

“Hey, car owner, what message would you like to send to your relatives? You can see that you have fallen into the hands of kidnappers,” the armed man says.

Responding, the driver, who identified himself as IBB Birni Yawuri, appealed to relatives, friends and well-wishers for assistance.

“Assalamu alaikum. As you know, I am your IBB Birni Yawuri. By the grace of Allah, I was on my way to Abuja when I fell into the hands of kidnappers, or rather, when we fell into their hands,” he said.

“I am not alone; there are many other people with me. We are here, and so, brothers, relatives, friends and well-wishers, please see the situation we are in, by the grace of Allah.

“We are asking for your contributions and support through the appropriate community channels. We are very grateful,” the driver added.

After the driver’s message, one of the suspected bandits instructed him to address other people, saying, “All right, send a message to your fellow countrymen.”

Another victim, who was blindfolded with a red piece of cloth, could be heard confirming their captivity.

“We have been captured. We have been captured,” the victim said.
