Former Rehabilitation Beneficiary Has Returned Seeking Forgiveness And Pastoral Employment After His Church Collapsed
The General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries (OPM), Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, has narrated how he allegedly rescued a former kidnapper and armed robbery suspect, supported his rehabilitation, sponsored his education and wedding, and eventually employed him as a pastor before the man resigned to establish his own church.
In a deeply personal account shared on October 18, 2026, Chinyere expressed disappointment over what he described as a painful experience involving someone he had helped rebuild his life.
According to the cleric, he provided the former criminal with accommodation in one of OPM’s free estates while he underwent rehabilitation at the ministry’s free rehabilitation centre.
Chinyere said he believed the man had genuinely repented and was determined to turn away from his previous lifestyle.
From Rehabilitation To Bible College Scholarship
The OPM founder explained that after completing his rehabilitation, the beneficiary was given an opportunity to either learn a skill or dedicate himself to serving God.
According to him, the man chose to work for God.
Chinyere said he subsequently awarded him a scholarship to study at OPM Bible College, where the former rehabilitation beneficiary reportedly graduated with good results.
He added that the man’s commitment to religious activities and his performance during his training influenced his decision to appoint him as the head of the ministry’s Iskpo branch.
The cleric claimed that reports from the branch were encouraging, reinforcing his confidence in the man’s commitment to pastoral service.
OPM Founder Says He Sponsored Former Beneficiary’s Wedding
Chinyere further disclosed that the former beneficiary later informed him that he had found a wife.
According to the cleric, he went on to sponsor the man’s wedding, adding another layer of personal and financial support to the assistance he said he had provided.
However, the relationship reportedly took an unexpected turn when the man submitted his resignation.
Chinyere said he subsequently received information that the former pastor had established his own church after leaving OPM.
The cleric did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the resignation or the establishment of the alleged independent church.
‘He Has Lost Everything,’ Cleric Claims
In his account, Chinyere claimed that as of October 18, 2026, the former pastor’s church had closed down and his wife was living with another man.
These claims could not be independently verified from the information available in the statement.
The OPM founder said the former beneficiary had now returned to him, seeking forgiveness and asking to be employed again as a pastor.
Chinyere stated that he had forgiven the man but expressed reservations about reinstating him to a pastoral position.
His position appeared to distinguish between offering forgiveness to someone and restoring that person’s former responsibilities within a religious organisation.
‘Why Do People You Show Love And Kindness To Always Reward You With Evil?’
Reflecting on the experience, Chinyere posed a question that captured his frustration and disappointment.
“One question that is always bothering my heart is WHY DO PEOPLE YOU SHOW LOVE AND KINDNESS TO ALWAYS REWARD YOU WITH EVIL,” he said.
The cleric’s account raises broader questions about trust, rehabilitation, gratitude and the challenges faced by individuals and organisations that invest resources in helping people rebuild their lives.
It also highlights a difficult leadership question: should forgiveness automatically lead to the restoration of a position of authority?
While Chinyere said he had forgiven the former beneficiary, he made it clear that forgiveness did not necessarily mean he would reappoint him as a pastor.
His account underscores the distinction between giving someone another chance to rebuild their life and immediately returning them to a position of responsibility.
However, the circumstances surrounding the former pastor’s departure, the reported closure of his church and the state of his marriage remain based on the cleric’s account. The former pastor’s response was not included in the statement.
We will provide an update if further details or a response from the former beneficiary become available.Read Newspapers
