Osun Governor Adeleke Travels To UK For Vacation, Medical Check-Up After Reelection
The governor is expected to use the vacation period to take a break and undergo medical examinations as he prepares to continue his administration following his victory at the August 15 governorship election.
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has travelled to the United Kingdom for a vacation and medical examinations, barely weeks after securing reelection in the state.
Adeleke left Nigeria on Sunday for the European trip, which will also take him to other destinations that will be announced later, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed on Sunday.
The governor is expected to use the vacation period to take a break and undergo medical examinations as he prepares to continue his administration following his victory at the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke, who departed through the Lagos airport, said the trip was intended to enable him to refresh and prepare for the task ahead in serving the people of the state.
“I am taking a short break to refresh and get further prepared to serve the good people of Osun State,” the governor stated while taking off at the Lagos airport.
The governor’s trip comes shortly after the governorship election in which he emerged victorious, securing another term in office.
Despite his departure from the country, Adeleke also issued a directive concerning an emerging chieftaincy dispute in Koka town, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State.
The governor ordered the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported appointment of another traditional ruler for Koka Ilase.
The development has reportedly resulted in a situation where two individuals are laying claim to the kingship of the same community.
Adeleke directed the ministry to review the matter and ensure that due process was followed in accordance with the state’s chieftaincy laws and the traditions of the people.
The governor’s directive requires the ministry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported appointment and issue a report capable of clarifying the status of the traditional stool.
“I read of another King appointed outside the one on the stool. The ministry is hereby directed to look into the dispute and issue a report to set the records straight.
“I however urge all stakeholders to remain peaceful as the ministry does the needful. Kingship is governed by extant laws and regulations and the government will stand by the law and tradition of our people,” the governor posited.
Adeleke also appealed to all stakeholders involved in the Koka kingship dispute to maintain peace while the ministry conducts its investigation.
He stressed that the government would be guided by existing laws and regulations governing traditional institutions in the state, as well as the customs and traditions of the people.
The governor’s instruction comes as the administration continues to address chieftaincy-related matters across the state, with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs responsible for overseeing such issues.
The statement did not disclose the duration of the governor’s vacation or provide details of the medical examinations he is scheduled to undergo.
It also did not disclose the other European destinations the governor plans to visit during the trip.
