According to News Century TV on Sunday, August 30, former Vice-President and presidential hopeful, Atiku Abubakar, has promised to review and improve the Empower programme as part of efforts to address unemployment among Nigerian youths.
Atiku made the pledge while receiving a group of young Nigerians who visited him and endorsed his political aspiration.
He acknowledged the challenges confronting young graduates, particularly unemployment, and assured them that his administration would prioritise measures aimed at meeting their expectations.
“As most of you are young men and women who have just left the university who are unemployed, I assure you that Empower will be reviewed and will be improved to make sure your expectations are fulfilled,” Atiku said.
The former Vice-President thanked the group for visiting him and expressing their support, urging them to translate their endorsement into grassroots mobilisation ahead of the election.
“I really want to thank you very much for this visit of endorsement,” he said.
Atiku further appealed to the supporters to return to their respective states and local governments and begin mobilisation at the grassroots level.
He urged them to work within their wards and polling units to ensure that supporters are adequately mobilised to participate in the election.
“I hope after the endorsement, as some of you said, you will go back to your states, to your local governments, to your wards, to your units, to make sure you mobilise,” Atiku said.
He also stressed the importance of securing the votes cast during the election, calling on his supporters to remain vigilant throughout the electoral process.
“On the election day, people vote massively and you protect your vote,” he said.
Atiku’s remarks placed considerable emphasis on youth participation, employment and grassroots mobilisation, coming against the backdrop of concerns over unemployment and the economic difficulties facing many young Nigerians.
His promise to review the Empower programme suggests a focus on strengthening existing interventions targeted at young people, particularly those who have completed their university education but remain without jobs.
The former Vice-President also appeared to place responsibility on his supporters to build support from the grassroots rather than relying solely on political endorsements from organised groups.
The appeal for voters to protect their votes also underscored the importance he attached to participation and vigilance during the electoral process.
Atiku thanked the visiting group for its endorsement and urged its members to take the message to their respective communities, wards and polling units.
