Terrorists Kill 18 Niger Republic Security Operatives In Attack Near Nigerian Border

The attackers also allegedly vandalised two money-transfer agencies in Tessa before fleeing the area.

The attack is being described by local sources as one of the deadliest assaults against Nigerien security forces in the area, which lies close to the border with Nigeria and has come under increasing pressure from terrorist and armed groups.

The location of Tessa along the Niger-Nigeria border has raised concerns over the security situation in the region, particularly as armed groups continue to operate in parts of the wider Sahel region.

Following the attack, several popular and sporting events scheduled to take place in the region were reportedly cancelled as residents mourned the victims.

The bodies of the fallen personnel were initially taken to Tessa and are expected to be buried in Dosso on Saturday afternoon.
