Osun Residents: “We Collected APC’s ₦20,000, But We Still Chose Adeleke

Some residents of Osun State have reportedly explained that accepting the ₦20,000 allegedly distributed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not necessarily translate into support for the party at the polls.

According to the residents, they accepted the money because they had pressing financial needs, but maintained that their choice of candidate remained personal.

“We collected the ₦20,000 APC gave us because we had needs, but we chose Adeleke,” one of the residents was quoted as saying.

The comment has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians debating the effectiveness of financial inducement in influencing voters’ choices during elections.

The development also highlights the complex realities facing voters, particularly amid economic hardship, where some may accept financial assistance offered during campaigns while ultimately voting according to their preferred candidate.

However, the claims could not independently establish how widespread the alleged conduct was or whether the money was officially distributed by the APC.

The statement has nevertheless added another layer to the ongoing political conversation surrounding the Osun election, particularly over voter choice, campaign spending and alleged inducement.
