Suspected Boko Haram Fighter Arrested Over Attack On Army Special Forces School In Yobe

A suspected Boko Haram fighter has been arrested by troops over his alleged involvement in the May attack on the Nigerian Army Special Forces School (NETTS) in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Security sources said the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Musa Abdulhamid, was arrested at about 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday while allegedly attempting to infiltrate the military facility.

During preliminary interrogation, Abdulhamid, who reportedly hails from Potiskum in Yobe State, allegedly confessed to taking part in the May 8, 2026 attack on the school.

According to the sources, the suspect identified three alleged Boko Haram commanders—Mohammed, Mustapha and Ismail—as the leaders of the operation.

He claimed the assault had been planned well in advance, with the fighters hiding in bushes near a rocky area around Buni Gari before launching the attack.

The suspect also reportedly told investigators that the insurgent group lost more than 10 fighters during the operation, although commanders did not disclose casualty figures to rank-and-file members. He said many of those who participated in the attack never returned to their camps.

He further alleged that Boko Haram commanders withheld details of planned operations until shortly before they were carried out. According to his account, fighters’ mobile phones were collected before they were briefed and directed to their targets.

The suspect also claimed that insurgents frequently moved between hideouts to avoid detection by security forces and admitted to carrying a long firearm during the attack, although he said he did not know the weapon’s specific type.

Military sources said the suspect remains in custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and profiling.
