RCCG Legacy: Founder’s Daughter Calls for Recognition of Rev. Josiah Akindayomi

Pastor Titi Akindayomi, daughter of the late Rev. Josiah Akindayomi, founder of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has appealed for greater recognition of her father’s contributions to the church and its institutions.
In a public statement, she expressed concern that many members, including some senior pastors, are unaware that her father founded RCCG. She argued that the church’s history and the founder’s legacy deserve more visible acknowledgment.
Pastor Titi specifically called on RCCG General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, to consider renaming Redeemer’s University after Rev. Josiah Akindayomi, saying such a move would appropriately honour the man who established the ministry. She noted that while several university facilities have been named after Pastor Adeboye and his wife, Pastor Folu Adeboye, the founder’s name is yet to receive similar institutional recognition.
According to her, preserving the founder’s legacy is essential to ensuring that future generations understand the origins of RCCG and the sacrifices that laid the foundation for its global growth. She also urged founders of religious organisations to put structures in place that protect their legacies and prevent history from being forgotten.
Her appeal has sparked conversations among church members and the wider Christian community about how religious institutions preserve the memory and contributions of their founders while recognising subsequent leaders who have expanded their work.
