Missing Federal University Student Found Dead In Stagnant Water As Police Launch Probe
The deceased, identified as Enoch Sunday Maisamari, 28, was a student of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Federal University of Kashere.
The mystery surrounding the disappearance of a 200-level student of the Federal University of Kashere (FUK) has deepened after his lifeless body was recovered from a stagnant water body in the Sabon Garin Yero Village, near Kashere town in the Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The deceased, identified as Enoch Sunday Maisamari, 28, was a student of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Federal University of Kashere.
His death has left members of the university community in shock, particularly as he had reportedly been missing for days before his body was discovered.
According to available information, Maisamari was last seen on Sunday while attending a graduation party organised by the university’s final-year students.
His disappearance thereafter sparked concern among friends and colleagues, who had reportedly been searching for him before the tragic discovery.
A witness told Daily Trust that Maisamari, who hailed from the Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State, was eventually found after police recovered his body on Tuesday morning.
The source said officers later contacted the management of the Federal University of Kashere, after which one of the deceased student’s coursemates identified the body.
The circumstances surrounding how the undergraduate ended up in the stagnant water body remain unclear, with police authorities saying investigations are ongoing.
Confirming the incident, the Gombe State Police Command said it received a report on Wednesday at about 9:30am regarding the recovery of Maisamari’s body from the water body located in Sabon Garin Yero Village, Akko Local Government Area.
The police spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said officers responded after receiving information about the discovery and evacuated the body to the General Hospital in Kashere.
According to him, medical personnel at the hospital confirmed that the undergraduate was dead after the body was brought in for examination.
“The victim was evacuated to the General Hospital, Kashere, where he was certified dead. No visible marks of violence were observed on the body. But investigation is still ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Buhari Abdullahi said.
The absence of visible injuries on the body has not ruled out further investigations, as detectives continue efforts to establish the events leading to the student’s death.
The incident has raised concerns within the university community, with students and residents awaiting the outcome of the police investigation to determine exactly what happened between the time Maisamari attended the graduation celebration on Sunday and when his body was recovered from the stagnant water body days later.
Authorities have yet to disclose whether foul play is suspected, while the police say further findings will emerge as investigations progress.
