Political analyst Dayo Akintobi has criticised the reported interrogation of Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) scandal, questioning whether the exercise was thorough enough.

Speaking during an interview on Vanguard News TV on Tuesday, 21 July, 2026, Akintobi reacted to reports that ICPC invited Gbajabiamila to explain what he knew about how the alleged fake agency found its way into the 2026 budget. He expressed disbelief that the interrogation reportedly lasted only 30 minutes, arguing that such a serious matter required a more detailed investigation.

According to Akintobi, “They said they invited Femi Gbajabiamila and grilled him about what he knew about this whole thing. Guess how much the grilling took. 30 minutes. They went in at 3:00 and came out at 3:30. Tell me what kind of grilling is that. They probably asked him ‘hello, good afternoon Sir, do you know anything about this? And he said no,'”

The PFIPC scandal has become one of the country’s biggest political controversies after reports alleged that the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, also referred to in some accounts as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, operated from the Federal Secretariat in Abuja for nearly two years despite questions over its legal status. The controversy intensified after the purported agency was reportedly allocated N1.3 billion in the 2026 budget.
