Pastor Odumeje Advises Nigerians to Enjoy Life Sometimes, Says Not Every Loan Should Be for Business

Popular cleric, Pastor Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, widely known as Odumeje, has sparked conversations on social media after encouraging people to occasionally prioritize their happiness instead of living under constant pressure.

Speaking in a light-hearted but thought-provoking manner, the preacher said many people endure hardship throughout their lives without taking time to enjoy the fruits of their labour. According to him, some individuals carry their pain to the grave because they are always focused on responsibilities and investments.

Odumeje jokingly advised those who have never experienced luxury meals to visit popular fast-food restaurants such as Mr Bigg’s or Crunchies, even if it means borrowing money from the bank.

“Sometimes, try to make yourself happy. Some people carry their pain to the grave. Go to the bank, borrow money, visit Mr Bigg’s or Crunchies, buy those expensive meals you’ve never tasted, and enjoy yourself. That way, when the bank starts asking for the money, you’ll have enough strength to explain to them. Not every time you borrow money to invest in the wrong business.”

His comments, delivered with his trademark humour, have generated mixed reactions online. While many interpreted the statement as a reminder to maintain a healthy work-life balance and enjoy life occasionally, others argued that borrowing money for leisure is financially unwise and should not be taken literally.

Supporters believe the message was simply encouraging people to avoid living a life of endless sacrifice without making room for moments of happiness. Critics, however, stressed the importance of responsible borrowing and sound financial planning.

As expected, the viral remark has continued to spark debates across social media, with many Nigerians sharing differing opinions on whether happiness should sometimes take precedence over financial caution.
