Attempted burglary targets Yamal hours after Spain’s World Cup win

Lamine Yamal, a forward for Spain, was the subject of an attempted break-in a few hours after his nation defeated France to go to the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

Two masked suspects reportedly tried to enter the 19-year-old’s house on the outskirts of Barcelona early on Wednesday, according to sources in Spain.

The incident occurred just hours after Yamal won the penalty that set up Mikel Oyarzabal’s first goal in Spain’s 2-0 semi-final triumph over France.

Before they could enter the residence, the suspected intruders were allegedly spotted on a wall around the property.

The suspects fled the area when Yamal’s private security team used surveillance cameras to identify the two and triggered emergency protocols.

After the alarm was set off, local police arrived and began looking into the attempted burglary.

In an attempt to identify the culprits, authorities are analysing CCTV evidence and characterising the incident as an attempted robbery with force.

Before their split in 2022, the property was allegedly owned by Colombian singer Shakira and former Barcelona player Gerard Pique.

The most recent security incident involving Barcelona players is the attempted burglary.

Defender Pau Cubarsi reportedly had a high-end watch stolen earlier this year, and goalie Joan Garcia’s house was broken into, taking jewels and cash.

Yamal has had a fantastic season for both club and country despite the off-field incident.

During Spain’s 4-0 group stage victory over Saudi Arabia, the teenager scored his first goal of the competition. He has been one of Spain’s most impressive players at the World Cup.

During the 2025–26 season, he also made an impression for Barcelona, scoring 24 goals and dishing out 18 assists in 45 games across all competitions.

Spain will now focus on Sunday’s World Cup final, where they will play Argentina or England in an attempt to win the trophy for the second time in their history.
