Sh0ck as photos of mud-built police outpost serving 10 communities surfaces

Photos of a mud-built police outpost in Garungudinya, Babura Local Government Area, Jigawa State, have sparked a lot of discussion online after it was discovered that the building is still a Nigeria Police Force institution in 2026.

Many Nigerians initially thought the photos, which recently went popular on social media, were made with artificial intelligence.

However, the aged mud construction is real and still operates as a police outpost, according to later local accounts and community sources.

The outpost purportedly offers protection services to around 4,000 people of Garungudinya and nine nearby villages, despite its flimsy look.

According to reports, the officers stationed there handle complaints, monitor the area, and temporarily detain individuals who have been arrested before sending them to the Babura Divisional Police Headquarters, which is some 37 km away.

Despite the outpost’s terrible condition, locals explained that police officers work from it around the clock.

Local reports state that individuals, including those charged with major offences, are occasionally held within the little mud structure until transportation is set up to take them to the divisional headquarters.

Concerns about the state of security infrastructure in many rural areas of Nigeria have been rekindled by the development, and many people are wondering about the wellbeing of the officers who are supposed to do their jobs from such a facility.

Many Nigerians have expressed shock that a functioning police outpost could still function from a crumbling mud structure in 2026 in response to the photographs, which have sparked extensive internet debates.

Others called on the relevant authorities to update policing facilities in underserved areas and improve working conditions for security officers, describing the situation as a reflection of the infrastructure issues faced by distant villages.
