Security Agencies Make Major Breakthrough in Oyo School K!dnap Investigation.

Security agencies have recorded a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the abduction of 39 pupils and seven teachers from three schools in Ahoro-Esinle, Yawota and Alawusa communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

According to security sources, weeks of intelligence gathering by the Department of State Services (DSS) have enabled operatives to identify key members of the kidnapping gang and trace several of their associates across different parts of the country. The intelligence breakthrough has reportedly placed the abductors under intense pressure, with security operatives tightening the noose around the criminal network.

Sources familiar with the operation disclosed that the kidnappers have become increasingly apprehensive after discovering that security agencies had uncovered links to members of their support network. The development is believed to have weakened the confidence of the abductors and raised hopes that the victims could soon regain their freedom.

The victims were abducted on May 15, 2026, when armed men attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota and two other schools in Esinle. Following the attack, the abductors demanded the release of detained Ansaru commanders, payment of ransom, two Hilux vehicles, and the implementation of Sharia-related laws as conditions for releasing the captives. Security sources, however, say sustained operations have forced the kidnappers to reconsider some of their earlier demands.

Speaking during an interactive session with media executives as part of activities marking the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration in Port Harcourt, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, expressed confidence in the ongoing rescue mission.

According to him, troops are making tremendous progress in the operation and remain committed to ensuring the safe rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers.

Retired military officers have also commended the intelligence-driven approach adopted by security agencies, describing it as a major operational advantage. They, however, cautioned against releasing sensitive operational details that could compromise the rescue mission, stressing that the safety of the victims remains the top priority.

Security agencies have urged members of the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and allow ongoing operations to be concluded successfully.
